Hanoi (VNA) -
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has permitted 12 Vietnamese companies to resume their exports of seafood to the country, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s Department of Asia-Africa Markets has said.

Saudi Arabia decided to temporarily suspend fishery imports from Vietnam in January 2018, after a delegation of regulators, including the SFDA, conducted an inspection of a number of Vietnamese facilities and found that some failed to meet the country’s hygiene requirements.

Thanks to efforts from Vietnamese exporters as well as coordination between MoIT, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, shipments are to begin again.

The Vietnamese companies are the Halong Canfoco-Danang Company Limited, the Binh Dinh Fishery JSC, the Thanh Dung Canning Company Limited, the Tin Thinh Co., Ltd, Fujiura Nha Trang Ltd, the T&H Nha Trang Company Limited, the Mariso Vietnam Company Limited, the Hai Nam Co., Ltd, Pataya Food Industries (Vietnam) Limited, the Tien Trien Company Limited, the Rach Gia Kisimex Factory, and the Viet Long Kien Giang Limited Company.

The Department of Asia-Africa Markets will soon work with relevant authorities to remove the Saudi Arabian ban in full.

Local exporters must pay attention to improving product quality, as Saudi Arabia is a fastidious market with strict requirements on all imports. As a leading market in the Middle East, any policy adopted by the Saudis may affect the decisions of other regional countries, MoIT said./.
