Vietnamese, Cuban armies tighten cooperation

Vietnam ’s Deputy Defence Minister and his Cuban counterpart exchanged experiences in building the army in the new period and discussed bilateral cooperation opportunities.

The talks were held following the welcome ceremony given to Cuban Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Alvaro Lopez Miera, Chief of the General Staff of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, in Hanoi on April 16.

At the talks, the two sides briefed each other on their respective countries’ economic, socio-political, defence and security situation.

The same day, Sen. Lt. Gen. Miera and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

On the evening of April 16, Vietnam ’s Deputy Defence Minister, Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Khac Nghien, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, hosted a banquet in honour of Sen. Lt. Gen. Miera and his entourage.

While in Vietnam , Miera and his entourage paid floral tributes to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Monument for Fallen Combatants.

They paid a courtesy visit to Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and visited the High Command of the Air Defence-Air Force and a number of units of the Vietnam People’s Army./.
