Vietnam’s girls will receive more support from Plan International (Plan), an international humanitarian organisation operating in Vietnam, via a programme “Because I am a girl” between now and 2016.
The programme is launched on the occasion of the “ Girls’ International Day” endorsed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on Oct.11 in 2011, said Glenn Gibney, General Director of Plan International Vietnam at the launching ceremony on October 11.
Under the five-year programme, the oganisation will join hands with local authorities to encourage Vietnamese girls, especially those in the mountainous and urban areas, to get involved in making decisions, while further financing education from pre-school to secondary degree.
The programme also aims to reduce the number of girls getting marriage at early ages as well as factors that can make negative physical and spiritual impacts on female juveniles while attending schools./.VNA
