Vietnamese and Lao businesses met in northern Vinh Phuc province on December 19 to discuss the investment and implementation of ongoing projects in the two countries.
At the event, which was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Somsavat Lengsavad, participants mentioned difficulties and challenges facing businesses operating in both countries.
They suggested the Vietnamese and Lao Governments speed up the building of a 500 kV power line from Hatsan of Laos and Pleiku of Vietnam, salt projects in Laos ’ Khammoune and Savannakhet provinces, and Nam Ngum, Sekong and Sekaman 4 hydropower projects.
Addressing the event, Lengsavad expressed his hope that the two countries will work together to promote their fine traditional friendship and maintain cooperation and mutual trust in politics and economics.
He pledged that the Lao Government will direct relevant agencies to create favourable conditions that will accelerate the implementation of ongoing projects in Laos .
Deputy PM Phuc asked contractors and investors to concentrate on construction quality and the impacts these projects have on the environment.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese side will create conditions that allow projects in both countries to complete on schedule.
In addition, Vietnam will provide firms investing in Laos with up-to-date information, and strengthen the inspection and supervision of projects licenced to invest in Laos, especially in the fields of hydroelectricity, mineral exploitation and industrial tree planting./.VNA
