Central Quang Tri province and Laos’ Salavan province have agreed to boost cooperation in an effort to maintain political-security stability and social order in border areas.

The border management boards of the two provinces signed a document to this effect at their regular meeting in Dong Ha city on September 17.

Under the document, the two sides will continue speeding up education campaign targeting people living in border areas on the Vietnam-Laos Border Regulations.

The two sides will advise the two provincial authorities in making proposal to the Vietnamese and Lao governments on the upgrading of La Lay into an international border gate and in accelerating administrative procedure reforms at the border gate in order to facilitate travels by border residents.

The two provinces will work to increase economic, cultural and tourism cooperation and boost coordination in border patrol and crime prevention. They also agreed to create favourable conditions for local agencies and businesses to exchange and study investment opportunities.

Quang Tri province will help train Salavan officers in border management.

The border officials are scheduled to go on a fact-finding tour to the La Lay Border Gate on September 18. The two provinces are planning to connect Quang Tri’s Road No. 14 and Laos’ Road No. 15A through the border gate in the hope of boosting travel and cultural exchange in the region./.
