Vietnamese museums to be open for free on Int’l Museum Day

Museums in Vietnam are set to be open to visitors free of charge on the International Museum Day (May 18).

Hanoi (VNA) – Museums in Vietnam are set to be open tovisitors free of charge on the International Museum Day (May 18).

This is among the activities suggested by theDepartment of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Sports andTourism in response to the International Museum Day.

The agency called on museums nationwide to diversifytheir introduction and exhibition of intangible cultural heritage and toorganise more cultural events.

The museums should increase coordination with the educational sector tointroduce cultural heritage, especially intangible ones, to students, it said.

They were suggested to step up communicationsactivities, focusing on those going via websites, social networks and mobileapps.

The International Council of Museums chose thetheme “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition” for this year’sInternational Museum Day.

The Cultural Heritage Department said the themeaims to promote museums’ role in joining hands with the community to preserveand bring into play values of cultural heritage.

There are 162 museums in Vietnam at present, including126 owned by the State and 36 non-State ones, keeping nearly 3 millionobjects.-VNA

A group of authors from the Hanoi Press and Radio - Television Agency won the special prize, while A prizes went to Tien Phong newspaper, Quoc Phong Thu Do (Capital Defence) newspaper and the Hanoi Press and Radio-Television Agency. VNA reporters took one B prize and three C prizes.

According to Vietnam Customs, bilateral trade reached 59.43 million USD in the first nine months of 2026, up 9.7% year-on-year. Vietnam’s exports totalled 45.47 million USD, an increase of 10.2%, while imports from Tunisia stood at 13.96 million USD, up 8.3%.

Deputy PM orders nationwide push for first Vietnamese Culture Day

November 24, 2026 marks the first Vietnamese Culture Day, meant to put the Politburo’s Resolution 80-NQ/TW on cultural development into practice. The aim is to embed culture more deeply in social life, letting every citizen create and enjoy it while helping preserve, pass on and enrich the values of Vietnamese culture, country and people.

Po Klong Garai: Cham towers preserving centuries of history

The complex comprises three main structures: the Chinh (Main) Tower, Cong (Gate)Tower and Lua (Fire) Tower. The Main Tower stands about 20.5 metres tall, featuring a square base and tiered roofs that narrow towards the top. The Fire Tower, with its distinctive boat-shaped curved roof, adds a contrasting feature to the ensemble. Columns, niches, lotus motifs and decorative patterns adorn the brick walls.

On the morning of October 10, a ceremony was held at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square in Hanoi to launch a nationwide campaign encouraging regular physical exercise under the message “Everyone should choose at least one suitable sport to practise regularly”. This year, 30 contestants from 15 countries entered the competition, with five finalists set to compete on October 10 at Ballhaus Prinzenallee in Berlin.
