Three Vietnamese citizens who were on board the crippled Italian Costa Concordia cruise ship are in good health and staying in a hotel near the capital city of Rome.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Italy said on Jan. 17 that the three citizens were Mai Thi Phuong Thy and Truong Dinh Duy from Ho Chi Minh City , and Danh Oanh Di from the southern province of Kien Giang .
When the incident occurred, they were working on the ship. Fortunately, they jumped from the sinking ship and swam to the nearby island where they received support from local residents.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Dang Khanh Thoai visited the hotel to present gifts and ensure the welfare of the trio. He urged the Costa Concordia travel company to address salary interests and provide satisfactory compensation.
The embassy will provide clothes, essential goods and travel documents to enable the Vietnamese citizens to return home as soon as possible./.
