Hanoi (VNA) –
The Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) has, for the first time, entered the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE)’s Golden Age ranking, revealed the THE on June 24.

The ranking uses Times Higher Education data to cast a spotlight on the 200 best universities established for more than 50 years, but less than 80 years.

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the sole Vietnamese representative that made itself into the list comprised of 308 education establishments in 2020, much higher than last year’s figure of 271.

The universities in the Times Higher Education “Golden Age” ranking were established between 1945 and 1967. The ranking takes its name from what was a Golden Age in global higher education, characterised by rapid university expansions and increasing investment in research.

In recent years, the Vietnamese university was in the top 1,000 group of the THE’s world best universities and the top 400 group of the best universities in the field of engineering and technology.

It fulfilled international criteria in 2017 and ranked in the 261st - 270th place in the 2018 QS Asia rankings. In addition, three of its subject areas stood at the 401-550 group in the QS WUR by subject in 2019, being the only Vietnamese representative.

Rector of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son said the university’s potential and achievements in research have inched closer to the regional standards as it is among universities nationwide welcoming the highest number of outstanding new students each year.

THE World University Rankings, founded in 2004, provides the definitive list of the world’s best universities.

Headquartered in London, the organisation’s balanced and comprehensive methodology was developed after more than a decade of working in consultation with the world’s leading universities, and works on the deep understanding of what makes a university truly world-class.

THE’s rich data has become a vital study advice resource for students, helping them to make one of the most important decisions of their lives – who to trust with their education.

The UK educational organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) also unveiled its rankings of the world’s best universities founded within the past 50 years.

The Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City have made it into the 101th – 150th group of the QS Top 50 Under 50 2021 rankings.

This is the first time the Vietnam National University, Hanoi has entered the rankings. The public university, whose predecessor was the University of Dong Duong (Indochina), was created in 1993 by merging three universities in Hanoi. It sets itself a target to become a research-oriented tertiary establishment in multiple faculties and sectors by 2030.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City established in 1995, was the only Vietnamese representative to make the QS Top 50 Under 50 last year.

Boasting an international network comprising of academic partners across the world, the Vietnam National University stays up to date with modern standards of education, training and research, strengthening its position and prestige in the academic world./.
