New York (VNA) – Vietnamese youth and students in the US pin high expectations on the coming trip of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to attend the UN Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).

Truong The Anh, Chairman of the Vietnamese Youth and Students’ Association in New York, said that the leader's trip and participation is of special significance.

This is not only a notable step forward in Vietnam's foreign policy, but also emphasising Vietnam's role and position as an active member, reliable and responsible partner in the international arena, demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment, through important and positive contributions in areas such as peacekeeping, promoting the sustainable development goals, as well as enhancing multilateral dialogue and cooperation, clearly affirming Vietnam's commitment to the core values of the UN.

It not only contributes to enhancing and affirming Vietnam's increasingly solid position in the international community, but also expands opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation; and consolidates the country's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, diversification, and active international integration. The trip is a clear demonstration of Vietnam's determination to contribute to global efforts to address major challenges, especially in the context that the world is undergoing many complex changes.

Vietnamese students and young generations in the US always look towards homeland and wish to contribute to Vietnam’s development, Anh said.

He said he believes that the relationship between Vietnam and the UN will see positive and practical steps forward after Lam’s trip, adding it will also deepen Vietnam-US cooperation in strategic areas such as economy, education, and science and technology.

It is an opportunity for the two countries to further consolidate their comprehensive strategic partnership through expanding bilateral cooperation agreements for the benefit of the people of both countries.

Tran Vu, who has studied and worked in New York for years, said that he is impressed by Vietnam's rising position at the UN in recent years.

Particularly, Lam’s participation at the major events of the UN General Assembly this year proves that Vietnam highly values this international organisation, participates responsibly and makes full contributions to its activities, development orientations, resolutions, and practical activities such as peacekeeping missions, the UN Human Rights Council, or the UN Commission on the Law of the Sea to solve current global common problems.

Vu said that with the foundation of extensive cooperation as in the past, the relationship between Vietnam and the UN in the coming time will continue to be consolidated and expanded.

He said he believes that Vietnam will make more practical and effective contributions to multilateral institutions in general and the UN in particular, which clearly demonstrates that Vietnam is a responsible and active member with sufficient capacity and qualifications to participate in the common tasks of the UN./.
