The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have inaugurated its new headquarters in Takeo province, which was built with funding from the Vietnam Defence Ministry.

In his address at the inaugural ceremony on January 17, General Moeung Samphan, Secretary of State of the Cambodia Defence Ministry, said along with a series of projects constructed with financial assistance from the Vietnam Defence Ministry which were put into use recently, the new building is seen as a vivid manifestation of the close cooperation and valuable aid the Vietnam People’s Army given to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

General Moeung Samphan recalled the ceremony to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the historical victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime on January 7 held by the Cambodian government, and stressed the help and sacrifice of the Vietnamese voluntary soldiers to the country’s peace and development.

He also highlighted the great support from Vietnam to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, noting that the process of reforming and modernising the army in recent years cannot spare the help and close cooperation from the Vietnam People’s Army.

Work on the new facility commenced in late 2013 at a total cost of nearly 600,000 USD, including the construction and installation of specialised equipment.

This funding is part of aid package for basic construction the Vietnam Defence Ministry has provided for its Cambodian counterpart.-VNA
