A senior health official has confirmed that measures to prevent the A/H1N1 flu virus have been put in place and that the epidemic in Vietnam is under control.
Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, Head of the Preventive Medicine Department and spokesman for the Ministry of Health (MoH), said on January 12 that the measures include keeping the virus out of the country as much as possible, epidemic control and the on-the-spot isolation of flu victims.
Improving people’s awareness of the dangers of the A/H1N1 virus is seen as key to keeping the disease at bay, he added.
Thanks to accurate assessments of how the flu is developing, the MoH has listed suitable medications for victims during each phase, with Tamiflu being the most adaptable medicine, said Nga.
With its available stocks of Tamiflu plus 1.2 million doses of A/H1N1 vaccine provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Vietnam has sufficient medicines to deal with the disease.
Since the first case was recorded in Vietnam on May 30, 2009, the country has confirmed over 12,000 A/H1N1 patients, with 53 fatalities./.
