Hanoi (VNA) - Airports across Vietnam served about 1.29 million passengers, including 531,000 foreigners, from April 28 to May 3 during the holidays of Hung Kings Commemoration Day, National Reunification Day, and International Labour Day.

The figure is 39% higher than that of the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The number of foreign passengers and local visitors increased by 296% and 43%, respectively.

During the period, Tan Son Nhat International Airport dealt with 4,300 flights with 714,000 passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo. In particular, the number of passengers through the airport reached the highest level on April 28 with more than 132,700.

Noi Bai International Airport dealt with 3,200 flights with 526,000 passengers and 9,000 tonnes of cargo. The number of passengers through the airport reached the highest level of more than 96,000 passengers on April 28.

Da Nang International Airport dealt with 1,500 flights with about 210,000 passengers and 150 tonnes of cargo. The number of passengers through the airport reached the highest level of more than 38,300 passengers on May 2.

According to the CAAV, during the holidays, Vietnamese airlines carried more than 1.01 million passengers and 4,500 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 22% in passenger numbers and 17% in goods volume over the same period of last year.

With proper preparation, airports ensured service quality, security, and safety during the holidays when the travel demand increased, it noted.

All forces in the airport are available to support passengers at anytime and anywhere. Additional members of the Youth Union were also mobilised to assist passengers during peak hours.

Enhanced security control measures are also applied to ensure absolute security and safety for flights during the holiday.

During the five-day holidays, Vietnam welcomed more than 300,000 foreign visitors and served 7 million domestic tourists.

Total revenue from the tourists was estimated at 24 trillion VND (over 1.02 billion USD), up 9% compared with the same period last year.

The occupancy rate at tourist accommodation establishments was 60% and even up to 95-100% at some sites.

Localities across the country saw a boom in the number of tourists during the five-day break – the second longest national holidays only after the lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.

This was a positive sign, reflecting that tourism activities maintain recovery momentum as well as the sound direction of Vietnam's tourism industry in renovating its products and promoting the country’s image, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Vietnam targets to serve 110 million tourists, including 8 million foreigners this year. The “smokeless’ industry is expected to earn 28 billion USD in total revenue./.
