Vietnam is making every effort in implementing the UNESCO’sConvention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, whichdemonstrates its strong commitment to preserving and upholding thecountry’s heritage, Sun Lei, a representative of the UNESCO Office inVietnam has said.
Sun Lei was speaking at a seminar held bythe Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO in Hanoi on July 24 toreview the country’s decade-long implementation of the Convention.
Vietnam has provided an example of how culture plays the roleas a driving force for sustainable development, the UNESCO officialsaid.
Addressing the event, the General Secretary of VietnamNational Commission for UNESCO, Pham Cao Phong described intangiblecultural heritage as an important factor in preserving culturaldiversity amid the rapid globalisation.
With sevenUNSECO-recognised intangible cultural heritage examples, Vietnam hasmore opportunities to introduce its culture to the world, while makinguse of it to promote tourism, significantly contributing to localities’socio-economic development, he noted.
Participant at theseminar pointed to shortcomings in the implementation of the Conventionover the past decade and propose measures to deal with such problems.They also shared experience and discussed how to increase cooperationbetween relevant sectors in this field.-VNA
