Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam – Germany Hospitalinaugurated a tissue bank, the first of its kind in Vietnam, on October 16.

Hospital Director Tran Binh Giang said the bank is taskedwith collecting, preserving, storing, and supplying tissues for medical andresearch establishments, as well as partnering with foreign individuals andorganisations for health check-ups and treatment.

As the first surgical hospital in Vietnam, the Vietnam –Germany Hospital conducts tens of thousands of surgeries each year totransplant hearts, blood vessels, and bones, which are in high demand in thecountry.

It is expected to become a leading research and trainingcentre on tissue preservation and stem cell transplantation, as well astransfer technology to other tissue banks which are to be set up in the future.

Earlier, Minister of Public Security To Lam met two patientswho underwent successful viscera transplantation at the hospital and decided totake 5 billion VND (217,000 USD) from the ministry’s fund to equip the hospitalwith six specialised organ storage containers.

Thanks to them, the hospital was able to transfer heartsdonated from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital and the HueCentral Hospital for transplant operations.

On the occasion, the hospital also inaugurated a modern healthcheck-up area. –VNA

Brain-dead organ donor helps save six lives

Within 24 hours, the process of receiving the donated liver, two kidneys, two corneas, and skin to conducte transplantation for six patients was completed. The last surgery ended at 8:00 pm on May 3.

Free medical checkups provided for border residents

Running from April 12-13, the activity forms part of the 9th Vietnam–China Border Defence Friendship Exchange Programme, scheduled for April 16-17 in Vietnam’s Lang Son province and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
