Vietnam’s world's best rice enters Canadian market

In the first half of 2024, Canada imported over 207 million USD worth of rice, up 5% from the same period in 2023. Among the top five rice-exporting countries to Canada, Vietnam achieved impressive growth of nearly 55%, reaching an export value of approximately 6.5 million USD.

Recognising this demand, KD Trading, a logistics company founded by two Canadian-Vietnamese, successfully secured the exclusive rights to distribute ST25 rice in Canada. This milestone not only allows Vietnam's award-winning rice to expand its overseas market but also helps boost the market share of high-quality rice exports to Canada.

KD Trading selected ST25 for its exceptional quality, having twice won the title of the world's best rice in 2019 and 2023. The company believes that ST25 rice will make a significant impact in Canada due to its superior grade.

Canada is a substantial rice consumer, importing approximately 500,000 tonnes annually, with demand on the rise. However, the Canadian market imposes stringent quality requirements. Vietnamese rice has already gained a strong reputation here, and with current growth trends, Vietnam’s rice exports to Canada could exceed 15 million USD by the end of 2024, potentially capturing around 3.2% of the market.

Therefore, effective collaboration is essential among trade representatives, exporters, importers, and distributors to ensure a stable supply of diverse, high-quality rice varieties, particularly ST25./.
