Hanoi (VNA) - Military-run telecom group Viettel has been honoured as the fastest mobile network in Vietnam in the first half of this year.
The award was based on speedtest.net, with statistics from 1.61 million internet users in Vietnam in the first six months of the year.
SpeedTest said Viettel is the first and only Vietnamese mobile network provider to win the award. The evaluation and result synthesis were implemented independently and objectively by SpeedTest and there was no pre-announcement to internet providers.
SpeedTest also revealed that the Viettel network took the leading position in terms of data speed over the past three years.
Statistics showed that Viettel’s network achieved a speed score of 26.21, with average download speeds of 28.22 Mbps and average upload speeds of 13.56 Mbps.
Latency when accessing the Viettel network was the lowest at 28ms among other local networks.
Viettel’s mobile network speed had higher quality than other countries such as Thailand (14.65), the Philippines (14.98), Cambodia (22.91), India (10.14) and Russia (21.79).
Viettel is the network provider with the biggest 3G and 4G infrastructure in Vietnam, with more than 67,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) providing mobile coverage to rural and mountainous areas.
Of which, its 4G network which was launched in April 2017, covers 95 per cent of the country’s population with all of its base transciever stations (BTSs) nationwide using the most modern 4-transmit-4-receiver (4T4R) technology in the world.
Viettel now has more than 33 million subscribers. Vietnamese people have been quick to adopt new technologies and 4G has become a popular service for people even in remote areas.
4G technology is also a foundation for the implementation of many important Industry 4.0 projects by the Government.
In addition to improving its services, Viettel has launched promotional programmes to help customers access its services.
