The VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) and Giving-it-back-to-kids (GIBTK), a US non governmental organisation, signed an agreement for a programme to provide cardiac surgery for poor children in Vietnam in the central city of Da Nang on July 16.
The scheme has so far raised 600,000 USD that will benefit at least 1,200 children with heart problems.
Over the next three years, 100 children in the central provinces of Binh Dinh and Quang Ngai and Da Nang city will be the first to undergo cardiac surgery with funding from the programme.
The programme “Heartbeats”, founded by the VCF in 2006, has so far helped to cure 1,000 children with heart problems in Vietnam , where over 10,000 kids suffer from the same condition.
The costs, which range from between 30-50 million VND (1,680-2,800 USD) for an operation, are unaffordable to many of the country’s poor families./.
