The northern province of Vinh Phuc’s Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs on April 14 signed a cooperative agreement with the US non-governmental organisation, Maryknoll.
The agreement, which aims to implement a project on providing vocational training and job opportunities for needy children in the province, will run for two years.
The 86,000 USD project, with 69,000 USD coming from Maryknoll, will provide disadvantaged children with various vocational training courses in areas including electronics, making clothing, artificial flower and rattan weaving, to help them find suitable jobs and earn a livelihood.
The provincial Social Welfare Centre will be responsible for contacting producers and companies both inside and outside the province to support trainees in job seeking after they finish the training courses.
Maryknoll organisation, founded in 1911, has assisted Vietnam in many humanitarian activities such as vocational training for the disabled, impoverished people, orphans and juvenile wrongdoers, helping the country eradicate poverty in both urban and rural areas./.
