VN attends dialogue towards TPP signing

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong underscored Vietnam’s determination to speed up the negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement at a dialogue between ambassadors of the TPP member countries and the US New Democrat Coalition, in the US on March 28.

This is one of the first official meetingS between UScongressmen and representatives of TPP member countries in the contextof efforts to accelerate the negotiation to basically complete legaldocuments within 2012.

At the event, Ambassador Cuong proposedthat the coalition support the US grant of General System of Preferencesand recognition of Vietnam as a market economy.

The Vietnamesediplomat highlighted the dynamic development of the entire Asia-Pacificregion with 45 free trade agreements signed in 2010 and 84 agreements,including the TPP, are currently being negotiated.

Vice Chairmanof the New Democrat Coalition Jim Himes stressed the importance of TPPand affirmed the coalition’s support of efforts to promote tradeliberalisation.

Founded in 1997, the coalition now has 51 congressmen from big states of the US.-VNA

For the long term, PM Chinh stressed the need to develop the centre into a new symbol of Hanoi and the nation in terms of scale, culture, architecture, structure, environmental landscape, and governance, so as to reflect the national stature, worthy of the country's historical and cultural traditions, and especially to showcase its achievements after 40 years of ‘Doi Moi’ (Renewal).
