Vietnam will build two hydro-power stations with a combined capacity of 285MW in the provinces of Attopeu and Sekong in southern Laos.
An agreement to this effect was signed in Vientiane on August 27 between representatives of the Laos Government, the Song Da Group and the Vietnam-Laos Electricity Joint Stock Company.
Under the agreement, the Sekong 3 hydro-power project, with a capacity of 205MW, will be built by the Song Da Group with an investment of 278.5 million USD. The project, which is scheduled to begin generating power by 2015, will be carried out under a concessionary agreement with an operational period of 25 years.
The Sekaman 4 hydro-power plant, with a capacity of 80MW, will be built using 128 million USD from the Vietnam-Laos Electricity Joint Stock Company.
It is expected to produce electricity by 2016 and is also under a concessionary agreement with an operational period of 25 years.-VNA
