State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visits to Saudi Arabia , Tunisia and Algeria have all been successful, said Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung.

Talking to the press, Deputy FM Hung said that this is the first visit by the Vietnamese Head of State to Saudi Arabia and Tunisia and the third to Algeria since Vietnam established diplomatic ties with the three countries.

The delegation was left with good impressions from the visits, Hung said, adding that State ceremonies welcoming President Triet were given by the three countries with warm, friendship and sincerity.

President Triet was received, held talks and met with the three countries’ leaders, he added.

In particular, Algeria gave the most solemn welcoming ceremony, filled with great affection for the Vietnamese State President, surpassing all conventional rituals, he said.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika had several private meetings and spent many hours receiving and discussing privately with President Triet, like a close friend and comrade.

During the visits, Vietnam signed 13 agreements, memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with the three countries, creating important legal foundations for cooperation in the coming years.

To promote the relationship with the three countries, especially implementing agreements reached during the visits, he suggested enhancing the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-ranking delegations, in combination with the State and people-to-people diplomacy.

Vietnam should increase coordination on positions and on the exchange of ideas with the three countries in international and regional forums, he noted.

The nation should focus on well implementing cooperation agreements with Saudi Arabia , Tunisia and Algeria with priority given to promoting cooperation in oil and gas, trade, agriculture, and tourism.

The country also needs to direct large-scale, long-term cooperation in oil and gas between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and the Saudi Arabian Oil Group (Saudi Aramco) and accelerate and expand oil and gas exploration and production in Tunisia and Algeria , said Hung.

He went on to emphasise the necessity of increasing trade with the three countries, striving to double or triple two-way trade value in the coming years. He also stressed how these countries can serve as a gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter other regional markets in Africa, the Mid-East and the European Union (EU), and that Vietnam can do the same in return for goods to enter the ASEAN and Southeast Asia markets.

He also laid stress on concrete measures to implement agricultural cooperation with Saudi Arabia , noting that the Arab nation has the interest, the capital and the hi-technology while Vietnam boasts experience and great potential.

Regarding Algeria , Vietnam can study and implement cooperation in infrastructure and housing construction in the country, which will spend 200 billion USD in the field in the next five years and is eager to cooperate with Vietnamese construction companies, he emphasised.

Vietnam is undertaking numerous efforts to bring the friendship and all-round cooperation between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia , Tunisia and Algeria to a new height, he concluded./.
