Vietnam remains the world’s top pepper exporter with some 95 percent of its products reaching over 80 countries and territories worldwide, reported the Vietnam Association of Pepper.
About 15 domestic pepper companies continue to affirm their leading position in the world, making up over 50 percent of the market share.
The US remains Vietnam’s biggest pepper importer, posting increasingly stronger trade with the country.
Last year, Vietnam shipped 134,000 tonnes of pepper overseas, earning 899 million USD. The figures represented year-on-year rises of nearly 15 percent in volume and over 13 percent in value.
The association forecast that the country’s pepper export turnover will rise to 900 million USD in 2014.
As global importers will ask for better quality and impose more stringent criteria in the future, home pepper processors and exporters have been advised to come up with ways to satisfy this growing demand.-VNA
