On the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet), Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has presented gifts to victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in several provinces.
On February 6, the agency presented gifts worth 5 million VND each to 10 families of AO victims in the Vinh Vien A commune, Long My district, the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.
The agency also joined hands with the provincial Red Cross Society and the State Treasury branch to visit and offer gifts to 50 families of disadvantaged AO victims.
The same day, VNA’s bureau in the southern province of Soc Trang in cooperation with the provincial Association of AO/dioxin Victims handed over a new house to Nguyen Van A in Kiet Hoa village, Lam Kiet commune, Thanh Tri district.
The 69-year-old war veteran was exposed to AO during the war against the US. His 33-year-old son suffers from AO after-effect.
The VNA’s bureau in Soc Trang has also raised 6 million VND in donations to buy gifts for 30 families of AO victims in the province.
Meanwhile, the Association of AO/dioxin Victims in the province has arranged 400 gift sets, worth from 300,000 to 1 million VND, to offer to AO victims on the occasion of the traditional Tet festival.
According to Nong Thi Phuong, Chairwoman of the Red Cross Society of the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau, the province has mobilised nearly 2.7 billion VND and 8,200 sets of gifts in response to the charity campaign “Tet for the poor and AO victims” in the province.
The Red River Delta province of Hai Duong has spent 22.9 billion VND on supporting policy beneficiaries on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
Many businesses and agencies based in the province have also given away thousands of gifts to poor workers and underprivileged people.
Samsung Vina Company, based in the northern province of Bac Ninh has arranged with the Hanoi Passenger Railway Transportation Company to hire six trains for its nearly 5,000 workers to go to their hometown in the central region.
The first train bringing nearly 400 workers to Thanh Hoa departed on the night of February 6.
These trains will bring them back to work on February 15 and 16.
According to Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Passenger Railway Transportation Company, his company will try the cooperation model with companies in the southern Dong Nai province, and the northern province of Hai Duong next year.-VNA
