Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam Railway (VNR) and NextTech Group signed an agreement in Hanoi on April 23 to offer online booking and payment services for railway tickets through e-wallet VIMO.

Users will be able to book tickets online through VIMO in just a few minutes anytime, anywhere.

Phan Quoc Anh, VNR’s Deputy General Director, said VNR has offered online booking on its website duongsat.vn since October 2014. It has worked to expand agent systems and other sale channels such as mobile phones, e-banking and e-wallets to provide more convenient options.

Anh said around 30 percent of railway tickets were sold online. As more and more commerce shifts online, VNR will encourage passengers to book tickets using the e-wallet system.

Nguyen Hoa Binh, NextTech Group’s Chairman, said a recent survey from the State Bank of Vietnam showed that by the end of 2018, more than 60 percent of adults had at least one ATM card. However, most people in Vietnam still use ATM cards to withdraw cash rather than for online payments.

Binh said VNR has seen a remarkable digital transformation over the past two years.

“NextTech Group expects to become a long-term and trusted partner for VNR in the digital platform, thus bringing safe and convenient payment methods to customers while promoting the cashless payment project set by the Government,” he said.

Do Cong Dien, General Director of VIMO Technology Company, said last year saw strong development for e-commerce. The use of new payment technologies has become more popular.

He added that by using VIMO, all payments can be made on mobile phones, saving costs and increasing safety for customers.

People can download the VIMO e-wallet application for both iOS and Android and use bank cards such as Visa, Master Card, JCB or ATM cards from more than 20 banks to pay for railway tickets.

VIMO is offering 50 percent money back for the first 1,000 passengers who book railway tickets online from April 23 to May 31. The money will be returned within an hour after departure.-VNA
