A vocational training programme for disabled people living in northern Hai Duong province has reported a successful first year, with the average income of trainees rising from 190,000 VND (9 USD) to 600,000 VNA (29 USD) per month.
This is the first target of the three-year project, which is aiming to generate sustainable jobs and empower the position of the disabled people living in the community.
From 2012-2013, the project was also implemented in central Quang Nam province, where it helped many people living with disabilities to grow in confidence, integrate into their community and earn a living using vocational skills taught to them in training.
The project, sponsored by Irish Aid and Union Aid Abroad (Apheda), expects to offer vocational training classes to as many as 500 disabled people (of which at least half are women) by 2015.
Following the course, trainees will be introduced to employers and helped to find jobs at manufacturing businesses overseen by the local Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.-VNA
