Authorities from the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have agreed to relocate the current Vung Tau airport to Go Gang island of Long Son commune, Vung Tau city.
The agreement was reached at a meeting held by the provincial People’s Committee on October 8.
The current 172-ha airport, situated in Ward 9, Vung Tau city, mainly accommodates helicopters serving logistics, oil and gas services and pilot training.
According to Vung Tau’s urban planning till 2020, the existing airport will affect the city’s development space planning as well as the safety of residents living around it.
Local authorities said the construction of the new airport in Go Gang is in line with the approved planning, helping promote the provincial socio-economic growth while still maintaining defence and security tasks.
The province will urgently build a plan on relocating the Vung Tau airport to be submitted to the Government for approval.-VNA
