HCM City (VNA) - A database should be built to provide legal advice and information for overseas Vietnamese enterprises that want to invest in the country and build a strong brand for Vietnamese exports, heard a recent meeting in Ho Chi Minh City.
More than 100 representatives from government agencies and members of the Business Association of Overseas Vietnamese (BAOOV), HCM City Union of Business Association (HUBA) and HCM City Association for Women Executives and Entrepreneurs (HAWEE) took part in the meeting.
BAOOV Vice Chairman Peter Hong said one of the missions of the association is to create a network to connect overseas Vietnamese enterprises, providing them with information about the country’s potential for investment.
Phung Cong Dung, Chairman of the HCM City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said the meeting has focused on discussing ways to improve the quality of human resources and the competitiveness of the city’s economy.
This event creates an international network to share information and mobilise resources for the city’s 4.0 industrial revolution era, he said.
HUBA Chairman Chu Tien Dung said Vietnamese businesspeople around the world should remain connected so they can make contributions to the development of HCM City and the country.
Also speaking at the meeting, HAWEE Chairwoman Cao Thi Ngoc Dung said that the association through the event wanted to increase exports to international markets with the support of overseas enterprises.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation was signed between BAOOV, HABU and HAWEE with the slogan “Solidarity – Innovation – Cooperation – Development”.
Established in 2009, BAOOV has branches in more than 50 countries. It shares information about investment opportunities in Vietnam and other countries among overseas Vietnamese business communities, and attracts resources on finance, governance, trade, investment and technology.
BAOOV has created a favourable environment for overseas Vietnamese businesses and given effective advice for members about Vietnamese laws, administrative procedures and State policies.
More than 4.5 million Vietnamese live in 100 countries and territories around the world.
The overseas Vietnamese business community includes at least 6,000 members connected to Vietnam via technology and business fields.
In the first half of the year, HCM City received overseas remittances of 2.5 billion USD, a rise of roughly 20 percent over the same period last year. Last year, Vietnam received 13.8 billion USD in remittances sent home by overseas Vietnamese.-VNA
