Youth month 2019 focuses on community development

Binh Dinh (VNA) –The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU)’s Central Committee launched theyouth month under the theme of “Volunteer young people for the community” andthe tree planting festival during a ceremony in the south central province ofBinh Dinh on February 24.

The ceremony saw the attendanceof President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran ThanhMan, First Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee Le Quoc Phong, local leadersand about 2,000 members of the HCYU.

Addressing the event, Phong saidthat 2019 has been chosen as the Year of Volunteer Young People. The youthmonth this year will focus on creating new values and making contributions tothe growth of the society and nation, he said.

Therefore, the month will includediverse activities at local level to draw a large number of members of the HCYUand youngsters, said Phong.

Meanwhile, Man called on theyouth and youth organizations to continue studying revolutionary ideology,promoting patriotism, national pride and trust in the regime, thus continuingthe tradition initiated by ancestors.

At the ceremony, the HCYU CentralCommittee presented 100 gifts to policy beneficiary families and ethnicminority people, along with a 500-million VND school to Tay Son district ofBinh Dinh; six houses for needy families; two playing grounds and two swimmingpools for children; 10 scholarships to poor students; free health check-ups andmedicine to 1,000 locals; and five clean water supply works to Binh Dinh ethnicboarding school. The total value of the programme is over 1.4 billion VND(60,200 USD).

Xuyen Viet Oil case: Appellate verdict announced, with six receiving reduced sentences

Specifically, the trial panel sentenced the mastermind of the case, Mai Thi Hong Hanh, ex-Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Xuyen Viet Oil, to 11 years in prison for the crime of “giving bribes” and 17 years for “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing loss and wastefulness.” The combined sentence is 28 years in prison, 2 years less than the first-instance verdict.

Khanh Hoa tightens control of fishing vessels at sea ports

As many as 99.7% of Khanh Hoa's fishing vessels over 15 metres in length – 631 out of 633 – have now been equipped with VMS devices.
