The Royal Australian Navy warship, HMAS Ballarat, will cancel its goodwill visit to Vietnam this August due to an engineering defect.

According to a short notice issued by the Australian Embassy in Vietnam on August 20, the ship must now proceed directly to Singapore for emergency repairs.

Earlier on August 16, the embassy released a release announcing that HMAS Ballarat would pay a goodwill visit to Vietnam with the purpose of strengthening relations between the two navies and enhancing bilateral ties between Vietnam and Australia .

The ship is scheduled to visit Ho Chi Minh City from August 22-26 with a crew of 28 officers and 156 sailors, it said.-VNA
