Long An (VNA) – Cambodia’s Minister of Cults and Religion Him Chhe visited Vietnam’s Long An province on July 18, during which he affirmed that no enemies can make corrupt use of religion to undermine the solidarity between Cambodian and Vietnam people.

Him Chhe said the two countries’ people and Buddhists have maintained the spirit of solidarity and friendship and hoped that that spirit will be upheld forever.

He thanked the Vietnamese Government for helping Cambodian people put an end to the Pol Pot regime, and then rebuild their country.

Cambodian people in general and those in border areas have always received wholehearted, unconditional assistance from Vietnam in health care, economic development, and security maintenance, Him Chhe said.

Le Tan Dung, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Long An noted that close connection between the Mekong Delta province and Cambodia’s localities has helped improve the living standards of the two countries’ residents living in border areas, contributing to building a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The host briefed guests on Long An’s socio-economic development and efforts to improve the material and spiritual life of local residents, saying that the local authority has created the most favourable conditions for locals to practice their right to belief and religion.

Religious dignitaries have worked together with the local authority in encouraging their followers to actively join in the patriotic movements and poverty reduction programmes, as well as support each other in economic development, Dung stressed.

On the day, Him Chhe and his entourage visited several places of worship as part of their aim of studying religious activities in the province.-VNA
