Pretoria (VNA) – Vietnam always treasures its traditional friendship and cooperation with African nations, including Namibia, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Namibia Vu Van Dung when presenting his letter of credential to Namibian President Hage Geingob in Windhoek.

Dung, who is also Vietnam’s Ambassador to South Africa, pledged to do his best in his position to contribute to the development of the two countries’ relations.

He suggested the two sides actively implement the signed agreements, and strengthen political ties through the exchange of high-level delegations, people-to-people activities and the establishment of twin relations between their localities.

The diplomat also stressed the need to intensify trade and investment cooperation in the fields of agro-fishery, education and training, tourism and air freight services and foster coordination at international forums on issues of mutual concern.

President Hage Geingob said that Namibia wants to learn from Vietnamese experience in building socialism and managing market economy.

Namibia has recently announced its fifth five-year economic development plan and launched a fight against poverty and corruption, he said, adding that the country needs Vietnamese experts on agriculture and fishery to help it in cultivation and poverty reduction.

On the occasion of his trip to Namibia, Ambassador Dung also paid a courtesy visit to Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.

They discussed specific measures to implement the signed agreements so as to boost bilateral relations.

The Vietnamese ambassador asked Namibia to quickly complete procedures for the agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and service passport holders signed in 2013 to take effect.-VNA
