Hanoi (VNA) – Six Vietnamese and Russian couples who have enjoyed decades-long marriages were awarded with the medal “For love and fidelity” and certificates of merit during a ceremony in Hanoi on July 8 celebrating the Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity.

Acting Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture Shafinskaya Natalia said the annual Day of Family, Love and Fidelity aims to strengthen and popularise family values, and to maintain and protect generations’ succession.

The organising board also presented certificates of merit to six Vietnamese children who showcased their best paintings at an exhibition held on the occasion.

Also known as the Day of Saint Peter and Saint Fevronia, the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity was officially introduced in Russia in 2008. On this day, it is common to go to church where people ask for love and family grace.

Annually, Russia’s First Lady Svetlana Medvedeva will present the medal to the most outstanding couples on the day.-VNA
