Dak Nong (VNA) – Residents and soldiers in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong received 10,000 national flags during a ceremony held by “Nguoi Lao Dong” (The Labourer) Newspaper and the provincial People’s Committee on March 13 in Tuy Duc district.
The newspaper initiated a national programme in June 2019 to present national flags to border residents and fishermen, aiming to encourage and support them in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper Bui Thanh Liem said to date, the programme has presented 20,000 flags to Dak Nong province.
On the occasion, 100 scholarships worth 1 million VND (42.4 USD) each were presented to impoverished students in Tuy Duc and Krong No districts.
Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Deputy Chairwoman of provincial People’s Committee, described the flags from the programme as meaningful presents to the armed forces, soldiers and people in the district’s border areas, contributing to supporting them in firmly safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and border security.
With four border districts, Dak Nong shares a borderline of about 141km with Cambodia’s Moldunkiri province./.
