Binh Thuan’s fishermen given national flags, life jackets

The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) Central Committee in collaboration with the VRCS’s chapter in the south central province of Binh Thuan and sponsors on May 30 presented 140 national flags, 1,250 life jackets, and 140 first aid bags to local poor and near-poor, and disadvantaged fishermen.

Binh Thuan (VNA) - The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)Central Committee in collaboration with the VRCS’s chapter in the south central province of Binh Thuan and sponsors on May 30 presented 140 national flags, 1,250 life jackets, and 140 firstaid bags to local poor and near-poor, and disadvantaged fishermen.

Former State President Truong Tan Sang and representatives from theVRCS and local officials attended the hand-over ceremony.

As part of activities in the programme "Safety for poor  and disadvantaged fishermen” launched by the VRCS Central Committee in the period of 2022-2027, the event ishoped to encourage local fishermen to maintain their operations in fishinggrounds.

With a long coastline, Binh Thuan is one of the three keyfishing grounds of the country.

The province currently has 7,500 fishing boats with about 26,500fishermen, including those from poor and near-poor, and disadvantaged households,who are directly engaged in offshore fishing activities. More than 7,800 local fishermen are fishing without life jackets or lifebuoys. 

Representing local fishermen, Huynh Van Phuoc from PhanThiet city said the gifts are meaningful to local people, stressingthe commitment to strictly following regulations on fishing, and coordinating withthe Coast Guard and the Vietnam People's Navy in protecting the country's sovereigntyover seas and islands./.

Public order crime drops 22.55% in first half

In the field of economic crime, 2,096 cases involving 4,194 suspects were prosecuted in the first half. For corruption and position-related crimes, 370 cases and 1,042 suspects were brought to trial. Meanwhile, police uncovered 11,687 drug-related cases involving 22,863 individuals.

Thai Princess Award Foundation strengthens education ties with Vietnam

Youth volunteers support operation of local administration model, online public services

The programme prioritises 286 remote border communes, wards and special areas, where coordination between local youth units is seen as crucial. Volunteers are deployed across three main functions: supporting officials with administrative procedures, helping people and businesses submit online applications and payments, and offering digital training through creative models such as mobile tech clinics and grassroots tech groups.

Eight dead in apartment fire in Ho Chi Minh City
