Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - A joint venture between the Hanoi Export-ImportCompany (Geleximco) and International Transportation and Trading Joint StockCompany (ITC) has proposed building a logistics centre and Cai Mep Ha habour insouthern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
According to the proposal, the logistics centre, which isunder Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex, would cover an area of 1,000ha and thehabour could cover 105ha. They would require total investment of around 30.61trillion VND (1.32 billion USD). The project is expected to create jobs forsome 15,000 to 20,000 people.
The project’s target is to provide sea port services andgoods storage in bond warehouses, frozen warehouses and others with a capacityof three million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year.
The Cai Mep – Thi Vai is a deep-water port which couldreceive large container vessels of up to 20,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT),carrying 18,000 TEU capacity and capable of international goods transport.
Investors said the project would be a closed complex to helpreduce customs and import-export fees and contribute to the country’s economicdevelopment, especially in the southern area and the province’s industrialparks.
The Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex is one of the key ports inthe region. The port system is one of only 19 in the world capable of handling190,000 DWT vessels.-VNA
