Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth plenary session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) began in Hanoi on the morning of October 23 with the opening ceremony broadcast live on national television and radio channels.

Earlier, Party and State leaders and NA deputies paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.

The legislators attended a preparatory meeting to approve the session’s working agenda.

Apart from law-making tasks, the deputies will mull over many important socio-economic issues, along with the personnel work.

Six draft laws and 12 draft resolutions are expected to be considered and adopted during the sitting, and nine other draft laws to be tabled for discussion.

As usual, the year-end session will focus on socio-economic issues, with about 15 days to be devoted to hearing reports and deciding on a number of significant matters to the nation.

The documents include the Government’s report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan in 2017 and the socio-economic development plan for 2018; and a report on the implementation of the State budget in 2017 and State budget estimate and allocation for 2018.

The lawmakers will also give opinions on reports on the combat against crimes and law violations, anti-corruption and the settlement of citizens’ complaints and petitions in 2017.

They will use three working days questioning cabinet members.

Eleven of the scheduled working days are expected to be broadcast live to enable voters nationwide to catch up with many important issues, including the realization of the national target of gender equality and the settlement of citizens’ complaints and petitions, which will be deliberated for the first time at the plenary session.

The sitting is set to last until November 24, 2017.-VNA
