The Government Inspectorate and the World Bank organised a conferencein Hanoi on December 23 to review the 2013 Vietnam Anti-CorruptionInitiative Programme (VACI) which aims to curb corruption and strengthentransparency in State-run agencies.
The programme,including 24 winning projects out of the 130 entries proposing an arrayof ways to fight corruption, has received widespread support,especially fr om social organisations and local communities.
Many of the outstanding projects are underway in remote or ethnicminority areas such as Ha Giang, Hoa Binh and An Giang, with variedsolutions, involving the community’s surveillance, communications toraise public awareness, education, and IT application.
In addition to expanding feasible projects, the parties involvedshould enhance coordination to ensure the sustainability of theprogramme, said Ngo Manh Hung, deputy head of the Anti-CorruptionDepartment under the Government Inspectorate.
“Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiative Programme 2013” was the second inthe Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiatives (VACI) series, encompassing aninnovation competition and a knowledge exchange forum.-VNA
