Hanoi (VNA) - The 2022 Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day (AI4VN), themed “AI – Recovering the economy, shaping the future”, began in Hanoi on September 23.
The forum was expected to serve as a venue for participants to share stories, and propose solutions to contribute to creating motivation for developing the AI ecosystem in Vietnam. This was also a good chance for the community to understand more about the application perspective to see how AI technology has changed people's lives.
At the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said AI4VN 2022 introduces artificial intelligence products from not only big and reputable enterprises but also small businesses, adding that this shows that technology will greatly change lives now and in the future.
He stressed that Vietnam needs to make more efforts in the process of applying artificial intelligence to life because Vietnam still lacks AI human resources, and the AI training has not met the demand of domestic technology companies and foreign firms operating in the country.
Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam underlined the need to help people approach and understand more about AI across fields, from information technology and science to industry and other sectors.
The day earlier, three discussion sessions on AI solutions in banking finance, human resources, and automation in production were held to kick-start the event. Meanwhile, a plenary session on September 23 delved into developing an AI ecosystem to apply and improve the quality of life; and solutions to help businesses break through with AI technology.
At each session, speakers from businesses, research institutes and universities shared stories about technology development and application and the preparation of human resources in this field.
As heard at these events, Accenture's latest report showed that more than 60% of companies operating in the financial - banking sector are testing AI.
Pham Quang Vinh from Viettel Cyberspace Centre said that accumulating AI databases will bring in great value in the next three years, contributing to solving many problems.
Pham Hien, a researcher from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) 's Data61, introduced a project on the AI market in Vietnam, built exclusively for the formation and strengthening of the AI ecosystem in the nation.
It focuses on developing databases and algorithms to automatically collect, store and update profiles of Vietnamese AI experts at home and abroad; an index to track the development of AI in Vietnam; and business models to enhance research-industry collaboration in the field, Hien said.
Addressing the plenary session, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said AI4VN has become a reliable scientific event, attracting the attention of management agencies, technology corporations, and research units to join hands to promote the development of the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam.
According to the minister, AI has recorded a remarkable development and become one of the key technologies contributing to changes and strongly promoting socio-economic development in countries.

He noted that the event provides an opportunity to give initiatives and recommendations to jointly build and develop an artificial intelligence community and AI application ecosystem in Vietnam, aiming to contribute to socio-economic recovery and development, gradually turning Vietnam into a bright spot in AI research, development and application in the region and the world.
Managers, experts and representative from businesses focused their discussion on the experience and difficulties facing businesses in developing and applying AI technology.
There was also an exhibition introducing typical AI products, treating visitors to hands-on experiences and connecting potential partners.
The AI Awards 2022 was a highlight of this year, honouring outstanding AI products and solutions in business and life. Meanwhile, the AI Tech Matching connected and supported the development of potential AI products from the awards and competitions held within the AI4VN 2022's framework.
AI4VN has been the Ministry of Science and Technology’s annual programme since 2018. Its series of events pull together a wide range of stakeholders in the AI community, from policymakers and technology corporations to researchers and university students.
The implementation of the 2022 edition sees the coordination between the Vietnamese online newspaper VnExpress and Aus4Innovation, a 10 million AUD development assistance programme enacted under the Vietnam-Australia innovation partnership./.
