International tourists to HCM City reached 2.8 million in the period from January-June, a 14.7 percent year-on-year increase.

HCM City (VNA) - Internationaltourists to HCM City reached 2.8 million in the period from January-June,a 14.7 percent year-on-year increase, according to the municipal People’sCommittee.

During the period, the city’srevenue from tourism services also saw a yearly rise of 12 percent to anestimated 53.61 trillion VND (2.35 billion USD).

Since the beginning of the year, thecity has been organising monthly events to attract and retain visitors,including Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long robe), southern land cuisine andsouthern fruits festivals, among others.

The city also introduced a number ofnew tourism products recently, including medical tourism and craft tradingstreets.

HCM City welcomed 5.2 millionforeign tourists in 2016, making it the first locality to touch the milestoneof five million overseas visitors. The southern hub expects to receive 5.6-6million international tourists by the end of this year. -VNA

Search volume for Vietnam’s tourism ranks 7th globally

The top 10 most searched Vietnamese destinations were Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Vung Tau, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, and Hue. Notably, Vung Tau and Ninh Binh recorded the highest growth in search volume with over 75%.
