Hanoi (VNA) - The completion and operation of the 500kV circuit-3 power transmission line will contribute to completing the national power grid infrastructure, while connecting power sources to regions in need.

It is especially of great significance in transporting electricity from the southern region to industrial zones in the North, where the demand exceeds supply, thus stabilising the national electrical grid system.

Helping to ensure national energy security

The 500kV circuit-3 line is an important project to increase power transmission capacity through the 500kV system from the central region to the North with a capacity of 2,500MW to 5,000MW. The line improves the stability of power system operations, increasing power supply to the North from 2025. It also reduces the risk of overloading of the existing 500kV lines and stations, and contributing to ensuring national energy security.

After six months of construction, the 500kV circuit-3 line stretching from Quang Trach district in the central province of Quang Binh to Pho Noi in the northern province of Hung Yen was inaugurated on August 29, 2024.

General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Nguyen Anh Tuan said that the 500kV circuit-1 line was built with the spirit of daring to do and daring to take risks and responsibility. Whereas the 500kV circuit-2 line was built with the spirit of promoting internal strength and proving national self-reliance ability. The 500kV circuit-3 line was built in the spirit of promoting the combined strength of the entire political system from ministries, branches, local authorities at all levels, and people have joined forces to solve difficulties and innovate to complete the project.

That is the direct, drastic, and continuous attention and direction of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, and the state steering committee for key, important national programmes, works, and projects of the energy sector, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises, the effective participation of the entire political system, local authorities at all levels and socio-political organisations.

In particular, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh many times directly went to the construction sites to inspect, direct and encourage workers participating in the construction. His encouragement contributed to creating motivation and spreading positive news about the project, while enhancing the trust and support of the people, encouraging the spirit of enthusiasm and hard work of all workers, contractors and investors.

EVN General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan, said that with the completion of four sections of the 500kV circuit-3 line project from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, Vietnam's electricity industry has completed construction and put into operation four 500kV power transmission lines from the North to the South with a length of more than 1,500km each, making important contributions to ensuring national energy security, serving socioeconomic development and national defence and security.

Evaluating the project, Associate Prof., Dr. Bui Hoai Son, a standing member of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education said: “Electrical infrastructure is the foundation of development, and the completion of the Quang Trach-Pho Noi 500 kV circuit-3 line project will ensure stable electricity supply, promoting industrial development and trade, and improve people's quality of life".

Spirit of innovation and creativity

This is an important project relating to national energy security, not only contributing to ensuring power supply for the North at the present time, but also building and constructing the project in a short period of time has allowed many valuable lessons for the Vietnamese electricity industry’s workers.

Nguyen Thai Son, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Energy Association (former Chief of Office of the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development) acknowledged that this was a project that brought together contractors, investors, social units and youth to culminate in the mega project’s completion.

At the inauguration ceremony on August 29, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the 500kV circuit-3 line is a project of faith that reveals the strength of great solidarity. The viewpoint that "people are the root" of the Party and State, and the joint efforts, consensus, and participation of the entire political system under the leadership of the Party can bring great success.

This is also a project that demonstrates the aspirations, confidence, bravery, and values of Vietnamese people. The project encapsulates the spirit of "turning nothing into something, turning difficult into easy, turning impossible into possible" and the spirit of innovation, creativity, self-reliance, and self-strengthening, and the country's strong determination to overcome./.
