Hanoi (VNA) – A 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit Surigao Del Sur province in the southern Philippines on October 1.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake’s epicentre was 16km deep, about 68km northeast of Bayabas town.
Tremors could be felt in the province’s Surigao city.
Phivolcs experts said there would be more aftershocks but no damage is expected.
The Philippines lies along the "Pacific Ring of Fire" which is surrounded by numerous active faults and trenches on both sides of the archipelago. The country has frequent seismic activities.
