Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand exported 8.37 million tonnes of rice in January-October, a year-on-year increase of 20%, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The Southeast Asian country plans to ship more than 9 million tonnes over the full year, gaining more than 6.4 billion USD.
The ministry attributed to upward trend to continuous orders, supported by the increased and high-quality yield of in-season rice thanks to adequate water supply for cultivation as well as high demand for Thai jasmine rice in key markets./.
Thai rice exports to face stiffer competition from India
Thailand’s rice exports are expected to face stiffer competition as India has removed export restrictions and taxes, allowing unlimited rice exports, according to Charoen Laothammatas, President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association.
