Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved an action programme on foreign news service in 2013-2020 with the aim of maximising the capacity of foreign news service channels to serve national development.
The programme looks to ensure the Government’s concentrated management and strengthen coordination in the production of news destined for the world public to further promote the country’s images and heighten her position in the international arena.
It also aims to enable overseas Vietnamese to access updated news and information on current developments in the home country via different communications channels.
To realise these goals, the programme has mapped out personnel and infrastructure plans well as the making and issuance of related legal documents, policies and mechanisms.
It has also devised planning schemes for the media engaged in foreign news services, a network of overseas bureaus of Vietnamese news agencies and culture-information centres, the compilation of documents and organisation of training courses and international conferences and seminars supporting the service.
The programme takes on the organisation of various events to advertise the images of Vietnamese land and people as well as its strengths in trade, tourism and services and all-faceted achievements to international friends and overseas Vietnamese.
The role of Vietnamese representative agencies and the Vietnamese communities abroad will be brought into full play in these activities.-VNA
