A range of activities have been organised in Vietnam to mark the International Nelson Mandela Day, which falls on July 18.
One day prior to the date, the South African Embassy’s staff in Vietnam and donors visited and presented gifts worth 75 million VND (roughly 3,400 USD) in total to poor patients being treated at the Central Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
Previously, the embassy hosted a blood donation event with the participation of more than 100 people.
In November 2009, the UN General Assembly declared 18 July "Nelson Mandela International Day" in recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the world’s peace, freedom and justice.-VNA
