Adjusted planning of Mong Cai Border Gate Economic Zone approved

The Mong Cai Border Gate Economic Zone in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh is set to become a key border gate economic zone of Vietnam under a recently amended overall planning scheme on its development until 2040.

Quang Ninh (VNA) – The Mong Cai Border GateEconomic Zone in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh is set to become a keyborder gate economic zone of Vietnam under a recently amended overall planningscheme on its development until 2040.

According to the planning scheme, with revisionsapproved by the Prime Minister on March 16, the zone covers 17 communes andwards of Mong Cai city and Quang Ha town, along with Quang Minh, Quang Thanh,Cai Chien, and Quang Phong communes of Hai Ha district.

It will be built into a national key border gateeconomic zone as well as an important economic development centre of thenorthern region, the northern coastal economic belt, and the Kunming (China) –Hanoi – Hai Phong – Mong Cai – Fangcheng (China) economic corridor.

The planning scheme looks to turn this zone intoa centre of cross-border trade, industry, seaport, logistics, and generalservices of Quang Ninh province and the northern key economic region; anational tourism site; a modern and sustainable coastal city; and a zoneholding special importance in terms of national defence and security.

By 2030, the Mong Cai Border Gate Economic Zoneis expected to have a population of about 310,000 – 320,000 and attract 5 – 6million tourist arrivals annually. The respective figures are set to reach460,000 – 470,000 and 8 – 9 million by 2040./.
