Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 21 morning hosted an official welcome ceremony for his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala who is on an official visit to Vietnam from April 20-22.
After the welcome ceremony, the two PMs held talks. As scheduled, the Czech government leader will also witness the signing of bilateral cooperation pacts, pay a courtesy call to President Vo Van Thuong, and attend a Vietnam-Czech Republic business forum. Read full story
- National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández compared notes on orientations and measures to further strengthen the fraternal solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, legislatures and peoples during their talks in Havana on April 20 (local time).
At the talks, which took place following a welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese top legislator, host and guest also briefed each other on the domestic situation, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared concern. Read full story
- Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with Cuban revolution leader Gen. Raúl Castro Ruz, and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel in Havana on April 20 (local time).
The two hosts welcomed the first official visit to Cuba by Chairman Hue, who is also the first foreign leader to have visited their country after it successfully held the elections of deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power for the 2023 - 2028 tenure and elected the new State and Government leadership. - Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue met with Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz in Havana on April 20 afternoon (local time), stressing Vietnam’s resolve to further reinforce its time-tested ties with Cuba.
Chairman Hue, who is paying an official visit to the Latin American nation, affirmed that the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and people of Vietnam always support the just revolutionary cause of the fraternal Cuban people. They also attach importance to and are determined to further intensify the long-standing solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba. Read full story
- Promoting the role of multilateralism is of great importance in tackling the current global multidimensional crisis, helping secure financial resources for the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), recommended Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN).
In his speech at the 2023 UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development, held from April 17-20, the diplomat called on the international community to make more efforts to narrow the financial gap between countries and suggested that the G7 and G20 nations accelerate the implementation of their commitments to support developing countries in accessing preferential financial resources for SDGs and climate change response. - General Director of Vietnam News Agency Vu Viet Trang visited the headquarters of Cuban News Agency (ACN) and held talks with ACN Director General Edda Diz Garcés on April 20 (Cuba times).
During the talks, two sides reviewed their bilateral cooperation and highlighted the importance of reliable information sources in the context of rampant fake news. Read full story
- Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell expressed his deep impression on Vietnam’s economic growth as well as the way the country has improved living standards of people, during his visit to the Southeast Asian nation from April 16-20.
In an interview granted to the press, the minister noted that there's been "a wonderful relationship between Australia and Vietnam over the last 50 years” and Australia wants to work with Vietnam to continue the improvement in living standards so that Vietnam can beat the goal of being a fully developed country by 2045. - Export of pepper beans and spices would earn Vietnam 2 billion USD in 2025, according to President of the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) Hoang Thi Lien.
At a conference on pepper and spice export on April 21, Lien said the forecast is based on expectations that pepper prices will rise as demand recovers after COVID-19 while supply remains scarce. Read full story
- Natural disasters caused economic loss worth nearly 19.5 trillion VND (approximately 830 million USD) in 2022, up 3.4 times from the loss recorded in 2021, a conference of the national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control heard on April 20.
Also, 175 persons were killed or went missing during natural disasters last year, it was reported at the conference, held in a hybrid format with the participation of all 63 provinces and centrally-run cities./.Read full story
