Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the first State visit to Vietnam by Australian Governor-General David Hurley, which is also the first trip by a senior leader of Australia after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, at their meeting in Hanoi on April 4.

- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the 4th Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit in Vientiane, Laos, on April 5 at the invitation of his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone.
The MRC is an intergovernmental organisation that works with the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to manage the shared water and related resources of the Mekong River for the sustainable development of the Mekong region. It was founded under the Mekong Agreement in 1995, building on previous cooperation through the Mekong Committee established in 1957. Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the 4th Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit, themed “'Innovation and Cooperation for a Water Secure and Sustainable Mekong”, in Vientiane, Laos, on April 5.
In an interview recently granted to the press, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh said the 4th MRC Summit will be attended by the Prime Ministers of the MRC member countries - Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam - representatives of the MRC’s dialogue partners - China and Myanmar - as well as its development partners, and international organisations within and outside the Mekong region. - The UN Human Rights Council (HRC) on April 3 adopted a resolution proposed and drafted by Vietnam to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (VDPA).
The resolution was adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by 98 states as of the end of April 3 afternoon (Geneva time), including 14 co-authors (Vietnam, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Fiji, India, Panama, Romania, South Africa, and Spain). Read full story
- Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung led a Vietnamese delegation to the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 4 to congratulate the country's on its traditional New Year festival Bunpimay.
Hung expressed his best wishes to the Lao Party, State and people on the occasion. - After a strong performance in 2022, Vietnam’s economic growth is expected to moderate at 6.5% this year and further expand at 6.8% in 2024, according to Asian Development Outlook (ADO) released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on April 4.
Vietnam’s economic growth will be constrained in 2023 by the global economic slowdown, continued monetary tightening in advanced economies, and spillover from global geopolitical tensions, said ADB Country Director for Vietnam Andrew Jeffries. Read full story

- A symposium was held in London on April 3 to discuss how British non-governmental organisations (NGO) that are operating in Vietnam can support the country’s socio-economic development.
Representatives of the NGOs gave proposals on measures to assist Vietnam’s socio-economic expansion process, especially in the fields of health care, science-technology, climate change, support to poor communities and ethnic minority groups, as well as women and girls’ empowerment.
