Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The state visit to Vietnam by Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta from July 31 to August 3 will bring about many strategic interests for both countries, contributing to strengthening their cooperation in the time ahead, a diplomat has said.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Ta Van Thong highlighted the close ties and mutual support between the two countries in the international arena, especially during the struggles for national liberation. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 30 chaired a national conference on the implementation of a number of laws and resolutions of the 15th National Assembly.

Jointly held by the Government and the NA Standing Committee, the event was connected with sites in the 63 cities and provinces. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 30 ordered prompt actions from relevant units to deal with the consequences of a serious accident that happened at a coal mine of in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The mine collapse, which occurred at 10.10 pm on July 29 at the Hon Gai Coal Company, killed five workers. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang requested competent authorities to carry out drastic measures and plans to prevent human trafficking, especially in hotspots and cyber space, while attending a ceremony in the northern border province of Lao Cai on July 30 to launch a campaign to combat human trafficking.

At the event, held in response to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and National Day on Anti-Trafficking in Persons (July 30), Quang said relevant agencies must intensify their work against the evil while effectively managing residence, border areas, border gates and business sectors subject to security and order conditions. - Vietnam’s overseas investment approximated 150.7 million USD in the first seven months of 2024, reported the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The amount was channeled in 64 new projects and added to 15 existing ones. Read full story

- Although being online is an integral part of children’s education and recreational activities, the internet has posed many risks for their safety.

Vietnam has some 24.7 million children, with two-thirds accessing the internet and using digital device from their early ages. The average age at which Vietnamese children begin to use the internet is 9 years old, while the global average is 13. Read full story

- E-commerce sales in Vietnam are expected to reach 30 billion USD by the end of this year, heard a meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Trade Promotion Agency and the city’s Investment & Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) on July 29.

Nearly 800 billion VND (31.65 million USD) worth of goods were sold on the country’s top five e-commerce platforms of Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Sendo and Tiktok Shop every day, ITPC Deputy Director Ho Thi Quyen quoted a report by market analysis firm Metric. Read full story

- The average income of Vietnamese workers in the first half of 2024 was 7.5 million VND (nearly 300 USD) per month, up 7.4% or 519,000 VND compared to the same period last year, said Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan.

Speaking at the ministry’s press conference on July 30, Hoan said that in the first half, the ministry proposed the Government issue Decree No. 75/2024/ND-CP on adjusting monthly pensions, social insurance benefits and allowances. Read full story

- Vietnam ranked second out of the 89 participating countries and territories at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), taking place from July 21-30 in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced.

All the four Vietnamese students won medals, with three gold and one silver./. Read full story
