Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- State President Luong Cuong chaired a conference in the northeastern coastal province of Quang Ninh on 19 March, which finalised a 2025 draft inspection report on the performance of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board.

As heard at the meeting, Inspection Delegation No. 1910 of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, which made the draft, noted that the Standing Board has issued detailed plans and guidelines for the provincial Party Congress, covering document drafting, personnel matters, delegate structure, and congress timelines. Responsibilities were clearly assigned to various agencies and units, with specialised subcommittees and support teams established with well-defined operation regulations. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested aligning laws with the Party’s policies and guidelines, especially the recently-issued resolutions, conclusions and directives, during the Government’s law-making session in Hanoi on March 19.

The session collected opinions on the revised Law on Atomic Energy, the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, amendments and supplement to several articles of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, and a proposal to update the Enterprise Law. Read full story

- National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai had working sessions with representatives from the Standing Committee on Finance under the Indian Lok Sabha (lower house) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations on March 18, within the framework of his visit to India from March 14-19.

At his meeting with Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance Bhartruhari Mahtab, Hai highlighted the thriving comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, with cooperation on financial and budget affairs and the development of public financial management policies being one of the important areas of collaboration. - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung on March 18 met with Tang Feifan, Mayor of Zhejiang province’s Ningbo city – a key economic, trade, and maritime transport hub along China’s eastern coast, as part of his working visit to the country.

During the meeting, Dung affirmed the positive growth of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and community with a shared future that carries strategic significance as well as the importance of the 2025 Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange programme. - Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien and Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Defence Gen. Sanitchanog Sangkachantra co-chaired the 6th Vietnam-Thailand Defence Policy Dialogue in Bangkok on March 18, reaffirming their dedication to advancing bilateral defence cooperation in alignment with their Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

The dialogue saw both sides exchanging insights on global and regional issues of shared concern, underlining the region's role and ASEAN-led mechanisms. They pledged to actively contribute to strengthening ASEAN's solidarity and central role in regional security architecture, while emphasising the importance of resolving disputes by peaceful measures based on international law. - Over the past 50 years, Mexico has witnessed Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in national construction and development, considering it a model for not only the Latin American region but also countries across the world, said Yeidckol Polevnsky Gurwitz, chair of the Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Committee of the Mexican Senate.

At a meeting with newly-appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai on March 18, part of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (May 19, 1975 – 2025), the Mexican official described Ho Chi Minh ideology as the lodestar that guided Vietnam to success, and the slogan "Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh" has always been a source of inspiration throughout her youth, motiving her to spend years seeking books about him in Spanish. - As part of his visit to the UK, on March 18, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh held meetings with British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle.

- The Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) has announced key events celebrating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925–2025) and the VJA’s 75th founding anniversary (April 21, 1950–2025).

The main commemoration will be held in Hanoi by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation in coordination with the committee's Office, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the VJA, the Hanoi People’s Committee, and other relevant agencies. - Ta Xua peak in Ban Cong commune, Tram Tau district, the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, was coated in thick frost from the night of March 18 until 7:30 am on March 19.

According to Dao Viet Nghiem, Chairman of the Ban Cong communal People’s Committee, frost typically forms on Ta Xua Peak before the Lunar New Year. The appearance of the rare phenonmena in mid-March is unprecedented. Read full story
