– State President Vo Van Thuong offered greetings to Buddhistdignitaries and followers on the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, while visitingHue Nghiem and Minh Dao pagodas in Ho Chi Minh City on May 26.
The anniversary is celebrated by Buddhist monks,nuns, and followers in the fourth lunar month every year to not only paytribute to Lord Buddha but also honour the fine ethical and cultural values ofBuddhism in society.Read full text

– Vietnam should take more actions, including thefacilitation of immigration procedures, in an effort to make itself a topdestination for international tourists, the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) hassuggested.
The board said it supports amending e-visagranting for citizens of all countries and territories, and prolonging theduration of e-visas granted to foreigners entering Vietnam from 30 days to amaximum of three months with single and multiple entries applicable.Read full text

- The Government Inspectorate of Vietnam and the CambodianMinistry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection signed amemorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation (amended), as part of theirtalks in Hanoi on May 26.
According to Vietnamese Inspector General DoanHong Phong, since the bodies’ first MoU was inked in 2005, regular exchangeactivities and coordination in organising personnel training courses havefacilitated the sides’ sharing of information and experience, contributing toimproving the effectiveness of inspection work in each country.Read full text

– Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative ofVietnam to the United Nations, on May 25 chaired a ceremony marking the 75thanniversary of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers (May 29,1948-2023).
The event gathered members of Vietnameserepresentative agencies in New York, commanders and officers of the Vietnamesearmy and police forces on duty at the UN peacekeeping missions in the CentralAfrican Republic, South Sudan, and Abyei region, and four Vietnamesepeacekeeping officers on secondment at the UN headquarters.Read full text

– The UN Day of Vesak was celebrated at Tran Quoc Pagoda inHanoi on May 25, or the seventh day of the fourth lunar month, with the jointeffort of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), the Hanoi chapter of theVietnam-India Friendship Association, and the Indian Embassy.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. It also aims to modernise criminal proceedings through the wider application of digital technologies and closer alignment with international practices.

Vietnamese community in Thailand urged to strengthen friendship bridge

Vietnam seeks Mauritania’s role as bridge to African Union for deeper ties

Vietnam expects Mauritania to act as a bridge for substantive cooperation between Vietnam and the African Union (AU), said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Gen. Vietnam treasures traditional friendship with Mauritania: FM

The two officials agreed to continue their long-standing coordination at multilateral forums, including the Francophonie, while reinforcing practical collaboration with regional organisations such as ASEAN and the AU, for the benefit of their people and for peace, stability and development in their respective regions and globally.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.
